Our Task: Standing Against Terror with Courage

Regarding the most recent events occurring in Washington D.C., we have a task at hand. Our task, as global citizens, is to respond to this blatant disregard for respect of fellow humans, terror meant to instill fear in our hearts, and display of ignorance, with courage, strength, and unity.

Our courage, strength, and unity is stronger than the hate of any terrorist. Revolutions happen when people stand up and say enough is enough. We have seen an insurrection of social justice movements in the last decade stemming from individuals standing up for what is right.

Take the Women’s March, January 21st, 2017, a worldwide protest occurring the day after the inauguration of President Donald Trump. Millions of individuals marched together; alone in Los Angeles, 750,000 people stood in unity, crammed in Pershing Square. At a very low estimate, 15,000,000 people protested the murder of George Floyd (a high estimate of 26,000,000) in 2020. Since these protests, we have seen an increase in this emerging social consciousness, universities opening dialogues with faculty and students, and companies incorporating diversity into their everyday practices. While we know that this is not the final stage of our transformation, we know that this is progress toward living in a world of courage and unity.

We will remember who has shown altruism, demonstrated peace, and stood at the front lines of this injustice. We will not forget the faces of those who opposed human rights. We will work to be better. To DO better. To let GO and RELEASE the negativity that clouds us during these times.

We only have control of ourselves, our actions, and how we respond to these situations. We are choosing to continue working towards a world where everyone has the same opportunities, create a community through shared values, and to rise up in the face of adversity.

Thank you for doing the same.
